Admission Overview

Students from ages 18 months to middle school grades are admitted as space allows throughout the school year
YHIS wishes to enroll students who exhibit an eagerness for learning
Our admission process concentrates on examining each child’s potential to contribute to and benefit from participating in the diverse YHIS community
- Applicants are placed into a grade level according to birth date with a December 31st cutoff.
- Maturity, motivation, social skills and educational achievement are all considered

*Note on Chinese Language Ability

We accept students with no prior knowledge of Chinese into our early childhood programs. Children do not need Chinese support at home to succeed in this immersion environment.
For elementary and middle school applicants, basic Chinese listening and speaking skills are required. We will consider applicants with no or minimum Chinese language skills if they are enthusiastic about learning in general and motivated to learn Chinese in particular.

Admissions Process

Each year, YHIS admits students from Early Learning (18 months) to 8th grade. Applicants are placed into a grade level in accordance with their birth date. In addition, maturity, social skills and educational achievement are all considered for grade-level placement.

To secure placement, parents are advised to apply by submitting the YHIS Registration Form by mid-February. The first round of admission decisions are made by the end of March for the following school year. If space allows, students may enroll at YHIS at any time during the school year. Please contact the Admissions Office to discuss this option.

To enroll at YHIS:

Complete a Registration Form and submit it to YHIS, with a one-time registration fee* of $250, by mid-February.
Receive admission decision by the end of March. Thereafter, applications are accepted if space is available or the applicant will be waitlisted.
YHIS will provide you with an Enrollment Contract outlining tuition fees, obligations, and payment plans for the coming academic year.
A non-refundable deposit* of $1000 per child is due upon signing of the Enrollment Contract. At this point, your child is enrolled for the upcoming academic year.
Complete and submit the Educational History and Records Release Form.
Prior to the start of the school year, YHIS will provide you with a list of other forms and materials to return to YHIS, such as Field Trip Permission Slip, immunization records, school supplies, etc.
